Floy McNaughton, 92, awoke into the eternal light of God on Good Friday morning, April 2, 2021. Funeral will be at the Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd on Saturday, April 10th at 11:00 AM with Fr. Hal Scott officiating, and eulogy by her grand-nephew Rev. Dr. Shawn Key, founding pastor of Faith, Hope and Love Fellowship church in Bella Vista, Arkansas. Final resting place will be in Abilene at Elmwood Cemetery.

Floy was born in Big Lake, Texas on May 29, 1928 to Mary Ethel Hill and Edward Lige Cutbirth, and grew up with her older sister Dorothy spending school years in Abilene and summers on their sheep ranch, where she learned gardening through the Great Depression and learned to love nature. She played trumpet in high school and college Girl’s Band. She earned Bachelor degrees in Chemistry and Teaching and a Master of Arts in Teaching. She started her career teaching high school chemistry, but returned to college for training in early childhood and later special education. She lovingly taught many children in Big Spring, Snyder, Lamesa, and San Angelo. As a teen Floy was active in Rainbow Girls and later in Eastern Star, in addition to church. She married Newell Francis McNaughton in 1951 and raised two daughters.

Once retired, she traveled the world-- planted a tree in Israel, explored the cathedrals of Italy and islands of Greece, and lived and taught with Catholic nuns in Honduras. She also learned oil painting after retirement and gifted many beautiful paintings to family and churches, including a more-than-lifesize Good Shepherd to the Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd. Floy loved the Lord all her life, and her church meant the world to her, especially Daughters of the Holy Cross and the intercessory prayer group. She was active in various prayer groups, taught Sunday School, enjoyed interdenominational groups such as Women Aglow, several Bible study groups and Pray San Angelo, and served on the board of Christians in Action. She researched her ancestors back to the 1700’s and was active in Daughters of Texas Republic and Daughters of American Revolution. In her later years she would divide each year equally between her home in San Angelo near one daughter and Tree of Life farm in north Texas with the other.

Floy was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Green. She is survived by daughters Jerrilyn McNaughton Prestiano of San Angelo and Paula McNaughton of Ravenna, Texas, grand-daughter Tamara McNaughton of New York City, grandsons Benjamin and Joseph Prestiano, a great-grandson Oliver in NYC, niece Marsha Green Key of Lubbock and nephew Tome Green of Temple, seven grand-nieces and -nephews and their children, all of whom she greatly loved.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd or Daughters of the Holy Cross for their charitable works.

Aunt Floy was a beautiful person. Determined to shine the light of Jesus Christ everywhere she went. She was very good to me even though I didn't deserve so much kindness and respect. A great lady that is now enjoying the fruit of her dedication in celebration with her family, friends and Savior that went before her.
