Nelson Joseph Davis Jr., 75, of Christoval, TX, passed away on January 7, 2021 at his home after a short but fierce battle with brain cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held on February 5, 2021, 11:00 am at San Angelo Cowboy Church, San Angelo, TX.
Nelson was born in Plattsburg, NY on July 26, 1945 to Nelson Davis Sr. and Catholene Davis. Though born in New York, Nelson would never tell you he was anything but a Proud Texan. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force with duty stations in Dover, Delaware and Toa Hoa, Vietnam. After his discharge he returned to Texas where he taught at Texarkana College for 8 years which began his love for mentoring and teaching young men. In 1978 he started his career with GTE where he worked until he retired in 2003. Once retired he relocated to Christoval, TX where he built his forever home. He continued to work and place his craftmanship throughout the communities of West Texas as a contractor with Michael Biggerstaff Homes until he began his final project. His pride and joy, as the Construction Trades Program Chair and Instructor for Howard College. His last 3 years he spent many hours building the program, teaching and mentoring men and women learning the construction trade. He worked tirelessly even in his off hours trying to finish the new workshop until his health no longer allowed him too. With his many careers his made lasting friendships with not only his fellow co-workers but his students.
When he wasn’t working he enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and traveling. He could tell you many stories of the many places he had traveled too. From East Coast to West Coast and the mountains and valley’s in between. They were even better adventures if he found something old and rusted to collect along the way and that he always seemed to find. He had so many places he still wanted to see and many other collectables to find.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne. Sons, Bryan Davis and wife Tiffany, Michael Davis and wife Christy and daughters Katrina Davis, Denise Herron, Gina Johnson. 13 Grandchildren, Parker, Grant, Isabella, Saylor, Savannah, Ashlin, Levi, Amanda, Joshua, Griffin, McKinsi, Hannah and Noah and 4 Great-grandchildren. Brother, David Davis and wife Faye, and sister, Cynthia Janes. His favorite Aunt Willie Jannie Eatmon and cousins Pamela Beauchamp and Janecia Dale. A special nephew that was always more like a son, Ron Phillips and wife Michelle. Along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins and so many friends.
He proceeded in death by his parents Nelson Joseph Davis Sr. and Catholene Lynam.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be given to the Christoval Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice of San Angelo.
The family would like to thank Howard College for their continued love and support during the last several months. Dr. Cummings, Dr. Studt, Dr. Nussey, Dr. Thomas Kingman, as well as Hospice of San Angelo for the amazing treatment and care over the length of Nelsons sickness.
As Nelson would always say before he headed anywhere and in the famous words of Willie Nelson, he’s “On the Road Again”
