Gary Word was born in Lamesa Texas in Dawson County on November 22, 1959 to Jimmy Lee Word and Dorothy Mae Pavey.
Gary was a husband, father, and grandpa. He married Carrie Powell on March 9, 2018.
He worked in demolition, construction, and oil field for many years. He loved his family and his church family. He loved kids and he was a Grandpa and Uncle to many.
He loved helping out with the kids eat free program during the summer. He delighted in seeing the kids happy.
He was head of security at Cross Pointe Fellowship Church the last few years of his life. He gave his heart to Jesus and was baptized in October of 2018. He was preceded in death by his father Jimmy Lee Word his mother Dorothy May Peavey Word, two brothers Vernon and Billy Word. He is survived by his by wife Carrie Powell, grandson Ethan Ramos, sister Connie Pruski, brother Danny Word daughter Rachel Word, daughter Jennifer Word, daughter Gail Word, son Jimmy Stockman, daughter Crystal Johnson Russell, grandchildren Devin, Elena, Mia, Ethan, Erica, and Jessica also numerous nieces and nephews of special sister Doris Clevenger and Connie Smith special brother James Smith.
Gary fought COPD and emphysema for several years after a stay in the hospital and he fought till the very end. He was surrounded by family and friends and past comfortably into the Loving hands of Jesus on January 2, 2021.
There will be a memorial service on January 10, 2021, at 1:00 pm at the Cross Pointe Fellowship Church at 4210 Coliseum Dr.
