Adelheid “Heidi” Maria Ryppa Childress went to her heavenly home on Thursday, December 31, 2020. Services will be held at a later date, when we can all gather safely again.
She was born Feb 10, 1933 in Klodnitz, Upper Silesia, Germany to Marta and Johann Ryppa. She met and married her true love, Olaf Childress in Stuttgart, Germany on the day before her birthday, Feb 9, 1960. They livid happily in Wendlingen, Germany and had three children before the call of home grew too strong and the family moved back to Alabama. After living in Mobile for many years, she helped build a family home in Silverhill, Alabama.
She never worked outside our home, but she was not just a homemaker. She kept the books for their construction business, was first to volunteer as room mother, den mother, scout leader, and so much more while her children were young. After they were grown, she took great joy in serving her church community in the Ladies Alter Society, the Baldwin Deanery, as one of the first Eucharistic Ministers in St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Robertsdale, Alabama. She loved joining the ladies in making crafts and gift baskets for the Christmas Bazaar, and her dishes were always welcomed at church luncheons.
Heidi was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Georg, as well as her husband Olaf and beloved daughter Irene. She leaves behind her daughter Linda Bell and husband George of San Angelo, Texas; her grandsons Kevin and Alex Bell; her son John Childress and wife Susan of LaCombe, Louisiana; her granddaughter Anita and great-grandson Nathan Childress; her granddaughter Jessica and great-grandsons Jacob and Caleb Knowlton; and grandson William (Trey) Cebula III of Lutz, FL.
The world was a brighter place because she was in it, now Heaven has a shining new light.
