Bobby was born June 6th, 1941 to Esther and Cleto Ponce. He was a longtime resident of San Angelo, where he was born and raised. As he grew into a young man, he took the occupation as a Carpet layer alongside his longtime friend Gilbert Soto Sr. Bobby was well known for his hard work ethic and was a good friend to many. He had a love for music and dancing, western movies, and loved to eat sweets. His all-time favorite was Oreo cookies, chocolate cake or ice cream and he would usually skip out on a meal and go straight to his dessert.
Although Bobby was born with disabilities, he continued to persevere despite the challenges he faced. The inability to verbally speak and hear, caused much adversity in Bobby’s life. However, this did not stop him from loving his family. Anyone that would visit him could see the pictures along the wall, of his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. There is a saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” and to Bobby, it really was that and more. Because of his inability to express himself the way most of us can, Bobby was a visual and a very observant person. What may have been ordinary to the average person was not ordinary to Bobby. He noticed the birds, the moon, and the smallest details in life. Bobby was gifted in more ways than he may have ever thought. And his faith in God, his Creator was evident in the way that he lived. He made an impact on those around him and although he will be greatly missed, we have peace that he is in a better place where there is no more suffering.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, his oldest son Robert Ponce Jr. (Bobby Jr.), wife Rosa Ponce, sister Lydia Ponce Gloria, and brother Alfredo Ponce, all of San Angelo, TX. And is survived by his two sons Orlando M. Ponce and Alfredo (Freddie) Hernandez Ponce both of San Angelo, TX; his daughter Amy Ponce Khoury of Newport News, VA; brother Daniel Ponce of Louisville, TX; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-9
