John Dial (J.D.) McClelland, 67, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 22nd after a courageous battle with cancer. His son Vincent, was by his side. J.D. was born June 6, 1952 in San Angelo, Texas to Foy and Evelyn McClelland. He spent most of his childhood in Barnhart, Texas, where he enjoyed life in a small town raising farm animals. He spent his younger school years in Barnhart, and graduated high school in 1972 from San Angelo Central High. In 1996, J.D. and his family moved to Robert Lee while living and working on a ranch outside of town. Since that time, J.D. worked at various jobs in oilfield related businesses. J.D.’s hobbies included fishing, golfing, hunting, watching football and playing cards with his friends. He was a member of Northside Church of Christ in Robert Lee.

He is lovingly survived by his son Vincent, grandsons Skyler and Corbin, brother Foy Jr. and his wife Mary. He will forever be remembered by his nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Foy and Evelyn McClelland, brother Robert Marshall and daughter Christian Mertz.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 15th, at the Northside Church of Christ, located at 820 Chadbourne, Robert Lee, with Buddy Wallace officiating. Arrangments are by Shaffer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in J.D.’s name to Northside Church of Christ, P.O. Box 468, Robert Lee, to the American Cancer Society, or to your favorite charity.
