went to be with the Lord at age 96 at 3:37am, January 20, 2020 in San Angelo, Texas.
Doyle, most commonly known in the family as “Dad,” Pa” or “Papa” lived a life of bravery, service, hard work, love and laughter. Born In Oklahoma, Doyle spent his childhood in Iraan,TX where he was a track and football star for the Iraan Braves. After being the lone survivor of a plane crash in 1941 while in high school. Doyle was called up as a high school senior and served in the Army, in the 45th Infantry Division in World War 11. After the war, he finished his education, worked in the family grocery store and then worked for Standard/ Chevron Oil Company In Iraan and Snyder for over 25 years.
Doyle met Laveta in Austin and were married in 1948. They raised 2 children and lived a humble life in Iraan, active in the First Baptist Church. Doyle and Laveta spent several years on a farm in Snyder, TX before moving to Menard, TX to live next to his son and best friend, Bub and family. Doyle resided in Menard until the death of Laveta, then, lived in his favorite mountain home in Angel Fire, NM; and moving back to Texas to Bronte and San Angelo. His last days were spent under the loving care of the staff of New Haven Memory Care and Ballinger Hospice Care.
Papa loved working on his farm growing vegetables, melons, and pecan trees; loved playing golf, listening to music, hunting and fishing; watching football, golf, tennis, and news on television; and reading his daily newspaper. His grandchildren brought him joy to his life. Doyle loved to joke with people and never met a stranger. He loved God and felt like he was blessed with his wife and family. He will be dearly missed.
Doyle is preceded in death by his parents Floyd M. Kennemer, Beulah Grissom Kennemer; his brother Denzel Kennemer; and the love of his life, Laveta Kennemer.
Surviving relatives include children Allen “Bub” Kennemer and wife Vidette of Bronte, TX; Linda Kay Dudley and husband, Clay of Portland,OR, formerly of Amarillo,TX; 5 grandchildren: Sandy Kennemer of Austin,TX; Patricia Burger and husband Tuck of Cibolo,TX; Troy Kennemer of Lometa,TX; Jamie Kay Allen and husband, Sean of Raleigh,NC; and Ben Dudley and wife Jamie of Portland,OR; 7 great-grandchildren: Catie & Micah Burger, Avery, Hannah & Max Allen, and Nolan & Griffin Dudley. Other survivors include sister Faye Kennemer Fife of Katy, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will celebrate Doyle’s life at a graveside service, date to be determined, in Menard, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial suggestions: American Cancer Society, St. Jude for children.
