Richard Eugene Self was born in Lamesa, Texas on April 27, 1944 to Hubert Lee Speck and Doretha Nichols Self. He was married to his wife, Linda Jackson Self, his high-school sweetheart for fifty-six years.

He graduated from Lake View High School in 1963. He attended Howard County College in Big Springs, ASU, and La Salle University of Chicago.
Richard started work at SAPD in 1966 to 1973. In 1974, he was appointed Justice of the Peace and left that position in 1982. Richard owned the Texas Kream Kone and was also the owner of his own trucking company until 2014 when he retired.
He is survived by his wife Linda and daughter Renee Arledge and husband James, son Kevin Self and Michelle Lay, his sister Aleta Dwyer all of San Angelo; grandsons Jeremy Arledge, Jordan Arledge, Layne Self; granddaughters Chelcie Ricco, Kimberly Willhite and husband Austin, Kelsie Martin and husband John, K.C. Baker; and seven great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, David Self of Clyde, Texas and Marshall Self of Crawford, Mississippi.
He loved to play golf and travel. Richard was a charter member of North Angelo Lions Club. He was loved very much and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
