Austin Jay Rivera, (32) passed away peacefully on Monday, June 17, 2019 in San Angelo, TX. Austin Jay Rivera was born on May 3, 1987 in San Angelo, TX. He was an incredible husband to his wife Christal and amazing father to their 7 kids (Andru (14), Nayla (14), Abram (11), Aiden (10), Azaylea (10), Jay (7), Jaydah (6)). He was an active member of Word of Life Assembly Church and strong believer of God.

His hobbies included: collecting and working on classic trucks, making music, spending time with his wife and kids, fishing, cookouts, Coaching youth football and basketball, and spoiling his wife. One of his favorite things to do was to hang out with his cousin Jake McBayne. Austin always had a smile on his face that would light up a room and loved to tell jokes and was known to be a prankster. He would laugh so hard tears came down his face. His favorite sports were football (Denver Broncos) and basketball (Houston Rockets). He was an electrician for many years and was recently working in the oilfield prior to his illness. Some know him by Austin, Bro, Brotha, Big Care-bear and Little Big Brother but he will be most remembered by the wonderful memories he has given all of us each one just as special as the other.
Austin is preceded in his death by his grandpa Manuel Rivera of San Angelo, TX and grandma Trinidad Rivera of Llano, TX.
He is survived by his wife Christal and his seven kids: Andru, Nayla, Abram, Azaylea, Aiden, Jay, Jaydah. His parents: Juan Rivera and Gloria Garcia of San Angelo, TX. His siblings: Johnny Rivera and wife Amy Rivera of San Angelo, TX, Jessica Rivera of San Angelo, TX and Jason Rivera and wife Melissa Rivera of San Angelo TX. Grandparents: Gilbert and Oralia Garcia of San Angelo, TX. Nephews and one niece and many aunts and uncles with numerous cousins.
Public viewing will be from 9am to 8pm on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Shaffer Funeral Home. Please join us in celebrating his life at his service which will be on Monday, June 24, 2019 at 10:00 am at Shaffer Funeral Home in their Chapel proceeding with burial at Belvedere Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jake McBayne, Johnny Rivera, Jason Rivera, Mark Ortiz, Eddie Gutierrez, and Jose Munoz.
A very special thank you to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at the Shannon ICU department especially Marcus Ray. Pastor David Smith for the countless prayers and visits. Special family members Mark Ortiz, Jake McBayne and Elsa Longoria and most importantly thank you to all of the family, friends and the community whom helped and donated for the benefits and a huge thank you for everyone who kept Austin in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Austin will forever be in our hearts.
