Obituary

Jan Patrick Baran, age 70, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 1,2019 at Shannon Memorial Hospital in San Angelo. Jan was born in 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland to John Baran and Doris (Brown) Baran. Jan served in the US Army from 1966 to 1969 with the 173d airborne brigade. During his time serving in the Vietnam War, he received the bronze star medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces. After serving, Jan moved to San Angelo and began working for the US Postal Service, where he was a mail carrier for over 20 years until he retired in 2008. He loved meeting the people on his route, especially the four legged friends that he would always give a Milk-Bone. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his sons, and after his retirement, his granddaughters. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, and could be seen riding around on his Harley Davidson.

Jan is survived by his son Jared Baran, and wife Cecille; son Jace Baran, and wife Chelsey; mother Doris Baran and brother James Baran, of Baltimore; and his 3 beloved granddaughters Jisette, Larissa, and Jacie. He was preceded in death by his father John and brother Jeffery.

Memorial will be Saturday, May 4,2019 at 11AM at the Vietnam War memorial at 8051 Knickerbocker Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation or the ASPCA in Jan’s name.

My condolences to the Baran family during this difficult time. In the Bible, Jehovah God gives us hope. Acts 24:15 says, “there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” Revelation 21:4 says, “and he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more.” Very soon we will see the fulfillment of these promises here on Earth. We hope you find comfort in God’s promises.
