Obituary for Gaylon Lynn Pitcock

Gaylon Lynn Pitcock was born in San Angelo, Texas on January 10,1948 to Teddy Earl Pitcock and Winifred Irene Gartman Pitcock.
Gaylon lived the first six months of his life in Tatum, New Mexico while his dad worked in the oil fields of New Mexico. In the summer of 1948 the family moved to Sanco, Texas in Coke County where Gaylon grew up, attending school in Robert Lee and graduating from Robert Lee High School in 1967. After graduation Gaylon attended Texas Tech College in Lubbock. On June 21, 1969 he married his high school sweetheart, Kaye Roberts, in Robert Lee, Texas. Together they attended Texas Tech until December of 1969 when they returned to Robert Lee. They built their home on Kaye’s home place and lived their days together raising their two sons.
Gaylon farmed and ranched while being employed by General Telephone of the Southwest for 30 years, retiring in 2000. He ran for Coke County Commissioner that same year and was elected to office. He served 16 years as commissioner of Precinct 3, retiring in December of 2016. Gaylon served on the Robert Lee Independent school board for 9 years. He served as a director of the Coke- Sterling Farm Bureau, Coke County Appraisal Board, and Coke County Water Supply Corporation. He was also a member of Hayrick Masonic Lodge #696. Gaylon loved cooking BBQ for the Coke County Hunters BBQ and the Coke County Livestock Show for 20 years.
Gaylon was a member and deacon of the Robert Lee Baptist Church and teacher for the Couples Sunday School Class at its inception. Gaylon had a beautiful bass voice which was “A God Thing” being that he as partially deaf from his birth. He enjoyed singing especially with “The Quartet” for church events until his heart surgery in September of 2008.
Gaylon and Kaye enjoyed trips with his Aunt Melva and Thomas and Aunt Annice and Curtis to Ruidoso. On the trips to Ruidoso lots of “88” and “Pegs and Jokers” were played as well as enjoying lots of laughter and eating too much! Gaylon was so proud of their sons Blake and Korey. He and Kaye enjoyed their road trips with Blake to rodeos while he rode bulls in college then hauling his bucking bulls. With Korey they attended Texas Tech football games.
The last nine years he has enjoyed every minute possible with his grandson Asher and McKinley and since November of 2016 Caleb and Abigail added to the fun and was happy he had a granddaughter to love. Gaylon also enjoyed playing 88 with friends Bill and Linda, Mary Beth and Wayland and with the men beating the “girls” most of the time. Gaylon also enjoyed sitting in his rocking chair on the front porch drinking coffee with Kaye and watching the hummingbirds, sitting at the kitchen table counting the variety of birds feeding outside and sitting on the deck in the evening watching and counting the deer at his feeder where no one was allowed to shoot.
Gaylon was preceded in death by his parents, Teddy and Winnie Pitcock, paternal grandparents, maternal grandparents, in laws Artell Roberts and Jim and Reba Tabor, uncle Douglas and Aunt Irma Lee Gartman, Uncle Butch Winkler and cousins Douglas Walker and Debbie Lindsey.
Gaylon is survived by his wife, Kaye; sons Blake and Amy of Midland, Korey and Lauren of Abilene; grandchildren Asher, Caleb, McKinley and Abigail of Abilene; aunts Melva and Thomas Lee, Annice and Curtis Walker all of Robert Lee. Other survivors are sister Sheri Millican and Marshall of Robert Lee and brother Darrell and Sharon of Glen Rose. Other survivors also include many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Gaylon passed from this earth to his mansion in heaven with Jesus October 21, 2018, surrounded by family. Gaylon fought a courageous battle with lymphoma for 16 years. The family would like to thank Pastor Cindy Wiedner, Bro. Ricardo Reyes, Bro. William Hood and Bro. Chris walls, their church family and friends who graciously held the family up in prayer and for all their generosity.
