Nephew James and wife Jane Minson of Georgetown, Texas; Nephew Ray Cody of San Angelo, Texas; Niece Carolyn and daughter Jana Pearl of Menard, Texas; Niece Jackie Jones and Patricia Carpenter both of Meridian, Texas and many more nieces and nephews. Lois had no biological grandchildren but when son Elton Cody married Judy on July 2, 2004, she inherited 2 granddaughters. Three of the great grandchildren Trey, Jude and Fara had the privilege of knowing Grandmother Lois in a very close relationship growing up with her in church and in a great part of their young lives. Lois became their very own great grandmother. She loved them as her own and they loved her as their own.
At this time Granddaughter Frankie Raye Sellars will sing “A Perfect Heart.”
Lois was a life-long member of the Pentecostal Church of God. She and her sister-in-law Daphene Reid made a life changing walk to the altar in Sweetwater, Texas where they accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their savior and were also filled with the Holy Ghost at the age of 18. She never looked back but set her eyes on Jesus. She taught Sunday School off and on for many years, working where-ever needed in the church.
Lois and husband Lloyd were singers and musicians. They formed the Cody Gospel Band along with their son Elton in late 80’s or early 90’s, now known as the Gospel band which Janelle Shockley has kept together these last few years. They played for churches, and especially nursing and retirement centers.
Mother Cody lived the last 10 years of her life at Park Plaza Nursing Center where she would sing with the band until about April of this year 2019. Lois loved Jesus and loved to sing about Him even when she was so sick a few days before her death she tried to hum the song He is my Everything as daughter-in-law Judy sang it to her. Now Lois is singing with Jesus in a clear and distinct voice never to be silenced.
Elton and I want to thank the nursing staff at Park Plaza Nursing Center for the love and care shown to Lois these last few years and especially the love shown the last few days of her illness. We thank you all for being here today to celebrate her life. We also thank Rev. Rick Lasly Lois’ Pastor for many years for bringing the final message for Lois.
