Ernestine B. VanZandt (Buford)

Ernestine B. VanZandt, born August 27, 1922 in Bronte, Texas to Ernest Kenneth and Gertrude Harwell Buford, passed away April 11, 2018.
She was reunited in heaven with her husband, James Weldon VanZandt (Jake/JW); her brothers, Douglas and Robert Buford, daughters, LaNelle Johnson and Cindy Hilley; and son, Robert VanZandt.
Grandmother VanZandt is survived by her son, Kenneth VanZandt of Houston; sons-in-law, Ray Johnson and Harold Hilley. She is survived by her grandchildren, Denise Johnson, Greg and wife Katie Johnson, Harold G. Hilley, Ben Hilley, Tammie and husband Dennis Lavorante, Kirk VanZandt, Brad and Scarlet VanZandt, and Cory VanZandt; along with great grandchildren, Leah and Lauren Johnson, Chloe, Hunter and Ashlyn VanZandt, Colby and Ryan Lavorante.
Ernestine will be missed by many friends and relatives who will remember her for her faith, kindness, hospitality and love of family. She was a member of Harris Ave. Baptist Church for over 45 years, working in the Day Care for many years. She was a Retired and Senior Corps Program volunteer for over 20 years.
Visitation will be held all day Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Shaffer Funeral Home, 1939 Sherwood Way, San Angelo, TX with family present 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 19, 2018 at 11 AM at Harris Avenue Baptist Church in San Angelo, TX. A private interment will be held in Bronte. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.
The family would like to thank residents and staff at Christian Village, Terry, Pat and Richland for their help and friendship. As well as the Staff and Nurses at Senior Care for making Mother comfortable the last few weeks.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to your favorite charity.
Pallbearers are James Arnold Tidwell, Ron Buford, Davis Corley, Larry Corley, Gordon Jones, and Jerry Lowry.
