Shaffer Funeral Home

The W. K. Simpson building that housed not only the funeral home but the Lumber & Hardware Store as well was built in 1924. Bruce Clift worked for the Simpsons, finally acquiring the funeral division of the business. Mr. Clift bought Frank Keeney’s Funeral Business in Bronte in 1946, thus combining the funeral business of Robert Lee & Bronte under one ownership. Sam Williams worked 12 years for Mr. Clift before buying the business from him two weeks prior to his death in November of 1963. George Newby operated the funeral home for 10 years after buying the business from Sam Williams. George then sold the business to Gary Shaffer in August of 1977.
The Shaffer family has owned and operated Shaffer Funeral Home since August of 1977, for 35 years. In 1987, Shaffer Funeral Home was relocated down the street at 901 Austin.
